Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) program Comprises of six months of general education, two years of basic medical and dental science, and two-and-a-half years of clinical dental sciences. This is followed by a year of internship for those wishing to practice dentistry in the UAE. The total duration of the program is five years followed by one year of internship. The curriculum has been developed to cultivate internationally competent oral health care professionals. They will be specially trained to improve the oral health status of the community through outreach programs, and contributing research to the understanding of its biological, behavioral, biomedical and clinical aspects. Further more, the curriculum prepares dental students for evidence-based dental practice in a changing health care environment, acquiring basic medical and dental knowledge and the skills that will allow the professional, ethical and humane practice of dentistry. The program is focused on promoting the acquisition of expertise, attitude and behavior that facilitate effective and appropriate interaction with patients and colleagues. Its goal is to produce caring, knowledgeable, competent and skillful oral specialists who recognize and accept the obligation to practice in the best interests of patients at all times.
BDS grants several opportunities across fields like general Dental practice, specialist dental practice, teaching, dental research, the dental products manufacturing industry, public health service, hospital service and Army, Navy and Air Force services.
