BS Chemistry

Department
Faculty of Engineering & Applied Sciences

Chemistry is the science of the structure, properties and reactions of matter. It includes both a basic science,
fundamental to an understanding of the world we live in, and a practical science with an enormous number
and variety of important applications. Knowledge of chemistry is essential to understand biology and
biochemistry and certain aspects of geology, astronomy, physics, and engineering. BS Chemistry is a four
year program consisting of eight semesters. The courses of BS Chemistry will provide students a better and
extensive exposure of Chemistry with updates on future challenges. These courses will be regularly updated
keeping in view the recent advances in Chemistry. The employment opportunities for graduates having
BS Chemistry are manifolds compared to their current supply. Almost all industries have vacant positions
for chemists to work for their R & D and Quality assurance/control departments. There is a significant
demand for Chemists in Public and private sector universities and colleges as teaching faculty. Moreover,
the graduates in Chemistry can work as research assistants in different laboratories.

Educational Objectives of Program:

  • To give students a solid foundation in Chemistry.
  • To study the structure and properties of matter.
  • To study the applications of chemical phenomena for production of different useful products.
  • To develop analytical and critical thinking skills that allow exploration of biological phenomena through
    scientific method.
  • To introduce students to modern methods of biochemical experimentation within discipline of Chemistry.
